Last night was University of Massachusetts-Lowell’s Mardi Gras Madness event. The DJ supplied the madness (we’re still hearing the ringing in our ears) and Maui Wowi smoothies helped supply the Mardi Gras, with custom cups and smoothie flavors like Pina Colada, Strawberry Banana and Orchard Peach.  Next up, even in today’s rain: Fordham University, Wheaton College and Westfield State University. Tomorrow: Wilkes University, Westminster Choir College….and more in the days and weeks ahead. We hope our smoothie-making arms hold out!

Our spring college tour continued at Springfield College last night for their annual “Taste of SC” Event, which was a luau theme. As you can see, the students took their apparel and makeup seriously. And of course our smoothies were plentiful and well received. Looking forward to seeing Springfield again soon!

We’ve been visiting Montclair State University in NJ for years, spring, fall and winter — smoothies in the warm weather, hot cocoa and espresso when it’s cold. This week we had great spring weather out on the quad of the Student Center — perfect smoothie making/drinking conditions.

The Maui Wowi Spring College Tour 2014 continues. We’re visiting well over 100 campuses this month to make smoothies for spring events. One of today’s stops was SUNY Albany, which held an Earth Day celebration. It was our first visit to SUNY Albany, and we loved the architecture — reminded us of the Kennedy Center in Washington and of the World’s Fair grounds in Flushing NY (our home town!) But back to the smoothies. The student activities folks came up with really cool logo cups with the Albany colors. And we nearly wiped out their supply of 1000 cups – in 3-1/2 hours of smoothie blending. We brought our “A” game!

We think this was our fourth or possibly fifth year in a row at SUNY Potsdam for their Spring Fling. As always, we had a great turnout and made many hundreds of smoothies for the students as we launch our Spring college event tour. Not many colleges have a lobster bake on campus! But when you’re in New England on the coast, you can practically reach out to the sea and pick one out – almost. Easier to grab is a Maui Wowi smoothie, which hundreds of University of Rhode Island students did today on a bright day. Our first outdoor event of the college spring season and more to come in the next days and weeks.

As business owners, we think a lot about our employees. How to motivate them, how to help them achieve their goals, and finally how to keep them healthy. The “corporate health fair” has been the staple event to try to inspire employees to workout, eat more fruits and veggies, and get at least 8 hours of sleep per night. As we all know, a healthy employee is a productive employee. So what is the problem? Unfortunately, employees are opting to stay in their seats instead of attending the health fair.  Maui Wowi is interested in partnering with companies and business owners who are looking to reverse this trend.

We have had a lot of success with corporate health fairs and wellness events over the years because we provide a powerful incentive for employees to attend. It’s the small stuff, right? Step one: how do you get everyone excited about showing up in the first place?

Here’s an idea: offer free Maui Wowi smoothies for your employees at the door.  Going one step further, perhaps you strategically place the smoothies inside so you don’t have a bunch of touch and run attendees. Regardless, free stuff is a small but effective motivator that can simultaneously serve as a starting point to advertise your health fair or wellness event. For a small catering investment, you can triple your buy-in.

Here’s a different scenario: employees, how many times have you sat down in yet another conference room with the ergonomically designed chairs, the cheap pen, pad of paper, and an all-you-can-drink buffet of water? Not that there’s anything wrong providing for a professional business atmosphere, but once in a while it is nice to mix things up, let your associates know you care about them, and most importantly, have a little fun. They may forget the movie (“Awkward Moments”) that was screened for Movie Night, but Colby-Sawyer College will remember the Maui Wowi Smoothies. We had a great time serving Strawberry Banana, Kiwi Lemon Lime and Lemon Wave (our spin on frozen lemonade) smoothies on Friday night. Now it’s on to dozens of other colleges this month for Spring Fling/Carnival/Fest events (the colleges all hace a different suffix, but it’s all the big spring blowout events to celebrate the end of the semester)! #colbysawyer
